How do you set Firefox to be the default browser for internet shortcuts instead of IE?

I installed it a few days ago but every time I click on an internet shortcut, or even click the "Read mail and news" button on the top, my IE (Avant Browser, that runs off of IE) starts and goes to the shortcut. I allready have the box checked to "Check to see if it's the default browser" for when it starts. How do I get firefox to take over as the default browser?

Right next to that box there should be a button that says "Check Now." Click that button. It should pop up a message saying either that it is the default browser or that it isn't and would you like to make it the default browser. Click yes and you should be all set.
